EDC – Eddy de Clercq

EDC a.k.a. Eddy de Clercq started his DJ career in 1975. His first national breakthrough occured in 1977 organizing Disco parties at the well known Brakke Grond theater in Amsterdam, introducing New York Disco to Holland – Disco had become a phenomenon.

In 1980 EDC opened his first night club De Koer a decadent playground catering for Punks to bankers and many celebrities from the New Wave scene. A couple of years later EDC started The Pep Club at Amsterdam’s Paradiso. For three years long clubbers came from all over Europe (quite often to a sold out venue) to listen to EDC’s mixture of Rare Groove, Classic Disco, Latin, African Beats and the early House sound.

In 1986 EDC opened the Club Roxy. This was THE place for House music in the Netherlands. EDC not only DJ-ed music at the Roxy but recorded with Gert van Veen the first Dutch House track under the name of A-Men titled “Pay the Piper”.

EDC also worked under the names of Mecca, Q, House of Venus, Penetration and the Essentials to name a few, was Ozbek’s music co-ordinator for his fashion shows, had a radio show on Amsterdam FM radio, worked in N.Y. (Mars, Red Zone, Palace de Beauté) and in Brussels, Berlin, Rimini and Rome.
